Stone of the Week
Picture Jasper
The Earth Painted in Stone
Picture Jasper forms when silica-rich groundwater percolates through volcanic rock, depositing minerals in sweeping, landscape-like patterns. No two slabs are alike — each one captures a moment frozen 65 million years ago. Found primarily in the Pacific Northwest, it remains one of the most visually dramatic stones in the jasper family.
Hardness: 6.5–7 Mohs · Origin: Oregon & Idaho, USA · Finish: Polished
